Jekyll & Hyde vs. Scotland Yard
I got a copy of Jekyll & Hyde vs. Scotland Yard published by 25th Century Games under license. It is a straightforward cooperative trick taking game for two players. The players play the roles of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde who work together to stay ahead of Scotland Yard on the trail of a murderer.
The game is played over 10 chapters, each composed of two rounds of card trick taking against the City of London. Each round the player takes turn as the lead character of the chapter. Chapters I-IV are tutorial chapters that introduce players to the rules and manner of play. Chapters V-X are are variants using all the rules with different winning conditions in effect.
The players progress the Jekyll & Hyde player token to toward escape at the edge of the board moving ahead by the number of spaces equal to the least number of tricks each player has taken. Scotland Yard token moves ahead based on the number of Bobby cards the player in the leading role for the round has in tricks they have taken. If the Scotland Yard token catches up with the Jekyll & Hyde token, the players lose and should not proceed until the next chapter until they escape successfully.
As the chapters progress starting conditions and additional achievement goals are added to increase the challenge level while the core rules remain unchanged.
We’ve played just a few times and have progressed to Chapter 7. I find really find the game interesting, easy to play. That it does not consume large amounts of time to set up or play is another bonus. I expect I will be returning to this game ever after completing the final chapter.
